Meet CRC Director Jenny Spiker

I am incredibly pleased and privileged to be Director of Cooperating Raleigh Colleges (CRC). Among my great joys in living and working in Raleigh since 1981 have been my associations with the colleges and universities in this city. I’ve had the opportunity to be on the administrative staff and/or faculty of three of the institutions (Saint Augustine’s College, Peace College and North Carolina State University) and have worked in other capacities with Meredith College and Shaw University. In addition, my family and I have enjoyed the cultural and other opportunities made possible by these great educational centers.

Bringing Together Work with Colleges & the Community

In my CRC role I’m drawing on my experience as an educator and administrator to serve these six educational institutions with collaborative projects and to help with collective outreach to the community. My professional field is communications with an emphasis in print journalism and public relations. I’ve taught writing and communications at Peace, Saint Augustine’s and N.C. State, have been the communications director for Peace College, the North Carolina Symphony and the N.C. Center for Nonprofits as well as the executive director of Communities In Schools of Wake County. I’ve been active in local nonprofits, including United Way of the Greater Triangle, Classical Voice of North Carolina, the board of the Raleigh Civic Symphony, StepUp Ministries, Communities In Schools, United Arts of Raleigh and Wake County and The Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce Education Committee.

From Nebraska to NC Via Beirut, Georgia & Oregon

I’m a native Nebraskan who’s also lived in Oregon, Kansas, Georgia, Cologne, Germany and Beirut, Lebanon. I’m married to Steve Spiker, professor in Genetics at NC State, and the mother of Ben, who works as a paralegal in Raleigh. My degrees are a BA in English and Journalism from Hastings College in Nebraska and an MS in Journalism and Mass Communications from Kansas State University.

Please let me know if you have ideas about cooperative projects already underway (e.g., cross-registration, library usage, the education channel) or new ways we can create synergy to better serve these five institutions and the public in this area. The CRC office remains at Meredith College in Wainwright Hall 110. Our phone is 760-8538, and the email is crc@meredith.edu.

Meet the Cooperating Raleigh Colleges Channel Coordinator Kristin Kauffman

Kristin Kauffman has been a part of CRC since 1996 when she began working at Creative Services at NC State University. Among the things she did there was to manually put into tape decks every program to appear on CRC’s Channel 18. Now she does the scheduling and “encoding” of programs by computer. She coordinates the program schedule with staff at Raleigh Television Network and checks daily to make sure everything is up and running for CRC’s Channel 18, which is on the air 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Email Kristin: Kristin Kauffman

Kristin enjoys spending time with her two sons and one daughter, painting murals like these and creating handmade jewelry.
