Key Findings—2013 CRC Economic Impact Study

The following apply to the combined economic impact in 2013 of the six institutions of higher education located in Wake County.

  • The six CRC campuses contributed an estimated $8 billion to the Wake County economy.
  • They accounted for 205,413 jobs for faculty, staff, students and alumni.
  • The totals represent 24% of all wage and salary income in the local economy and 43% of all Wake County jobs in 2013.
  • Total spending effects in separate categories:
    • Faculty and staff salaries — $999.7 million
    • Operations expenses (excluding salaries and financial aid) — $445.9 million
    • Spending by current students — $614.2 million
    • Spending by alumni living in the area — $5744.7 billion
    • Spending on construction — $135.9 million
    • Spending on athletic and cultural events — $25.4 million
  • Total employment effects in separate categories:
    • Faculty and staff jobs — 18,807
    • Jobs in construction — 997
    • Jobs held by alumni — 175,923
    • Jobs held by students enrolled in 2013— 9,551
    • Jobs related to athletic and cultural events — 135
